Mock Draft Number 1
The first mock draft in preparation of the 2018 season is here. I will be doing a half PPR snake 12 team draft from the 8 spot. 1 QB 2RB 2 WR 1WR/RB 1 TE 1K 1DST. Live commentary.
The first round starts with Bell and Brown at 1 and 2, followed by Gurley, Johnson, Zeke, Hopkins and then Kamara. In the 8 spot the top running backs are gone, and there are very few names in the position that I want with my first round pick, the best case I can make is for Saquon Barkley, but I would rather go WR here due to the other player maker in New York being available.
Round 1: Odell Beckham Jr. NYG WR.
The first round ends with Barkley, Hunt, Melvin Gordon and finally Julio Jones. Dalvin Cook, Fournette, Thomas and Allen start the second round. I would have loved for Keenan Allen to fall to me here and even though he has been picked, the elite level talent still available at WR makes me want to double up in round two. My round 3 pick is far away but I still think I can get a Rashaad Penny, Jordan Howard, Derrick Henry or Derrius Guice, all of whom I like, so I feel I can pass on Devonta Freeman or McCoy here and favour the elite talent of A.J. Green.
Round 2: A.J Green CIN WR.
My pick was followed by Adams and Evans, then 3 RBs in Freeman, Howard and McCoy, then Gronkowski. The next 7 picks had 6 WRs Baldwin, Jeffery, Robinson, Thielen, Gordon and Hill, along with Kelce and the first QB Rodgers. This is an excellent result for me as only one of the RBs I mentioned in round 2 got picked and both McCaffrey and McKinnon are still available which I was not expecting. This is believe to be a very close call and elect for McCaffrey as I believe he has the higher upside that I want in my RB 1.
Round 3 Christian McCaffrey CAR RB.
Next off the board are McKinnon and Mixon and then another big run of WR. Demaryius Thomas and JuJu Smith Schuster are the best WRs available. However looking at the draft board it is likely that 7 or 8 RBs could come off the board before my next pick and one of the remaining available RBs stands out, ahead of Ajayi, Drake and Collins. The rookie in Seattle, Rashaad Penny.
Round 4 Rashaad Penny SEA RB.
In the end 7 RBs went before my next pick and infuriatingly the three picks before me went Derrick Henry, Alex Collins and Derrius Guice all of whom I would have loved to get. Thomas and Smith Schuster went of in the 4th along with Ertz, Drake, Ajayi, Ingram and Royce Freeman. I love the look of Jimmy G's number 1 target at WR despite them not yet playing together, Pierre Garcon, but I think he will definitely fall to me in the 6th so instead I like the idea of doubling down on the rookie RB's with Sony Michel. (Can you imagine if had take Saquon in the first. Rookie RB madness).
Round 5 Sony Michel NE RB.
A QB run had occurred with Watson, Wilson, Wentz and Newton all being picked, along with Corey Davis, the suspended Edelman and Jimmy Graham. Crabtree is available but I'll stick to the man I originally wanted and take Garcon.
Round 6 Pierre Garcon SF WR.
A huge run of QBs and TEs continue. Brees, Cousins, Stafford, Luck and Roethlisberger gone. I see one player who I'm surprised is available and I wanted some part of the Titans backfield and I will take this part happily in round 7.
Round 7 Dion Lewis TEN RB.
So many amazing names still at QB like Garoppolo, River, Ryan and Goff, and every other team has picked one. Although the number 1 QB was taken way back in Round 3, I'll take some of his action here in round 8 with Green Bay's number 2 at WR.
Round 8 Randall Cobb GB WR.
In Round 9 I want to lock down the man I want at TE. There are still 4 teams looking for one and I'm pretty busy at RB and WR right now. I could still get Agholor, Benjamin or Chris Thompson but I want to secure Trey Burton.
Round 9 Trey Burton CHI TE.
In round 10 I want I make a bit of a homer move and take Bilal Powell. I still think this is good value but I just like having a Jets player on my team.
Round 10 Bilal Powell NYJ RB.
Now I will run through the final picks
Round 11 Ty Montgomery GB RB. - Surprised to see him on the board, I think the Green Bay RB spot is still a contest.
Round 12 Jimmy Garoppolo SF QB.
Round 13 Matt Ryan ATL QB.
Round 14 Seattle D.
Round 15 Tyler Lockett SEA WR. - Screw taking a kicker.
